Seasons Change... "Dress" Accordingly!

Today marks the last official day of Summer and the first days of Autumn await. That means "goodbye" BBQs and Beach Parties... But never fear! Now's the perfect time to get out the cornucopias and prepare for the Harvest!

Though the temperatures may drop and nights grow a little cooler, Fall always evokes a sense of warmth -- from the soft comfortable glow radiating from our living room windows, or mom's home cooking lingering in the air.

So as the Seasons change, so should we! Some of us, depending on where we live, might need to reach for the scarves and hats (some of us will simply make sure our sleeves get a little longer). Either way, we're dressing for the season. Likewise, let's dress up our homes (inside and out) for the seasons too.

Here are some great Fall Decor Ideas for you. Maybe you'd like to host a dinner party...or maybe Thanksgiving is at your house this year...or maybe you've always dreamed of an Autumn wedding date. Check out some of these ideas below...

Colder temps doesn't have to mean a non inviting entry way to your home

The rich colors of Fall are fun to play with when decorating the home. Use leaves as a unique twist on a table runner

Mini pumpkins are a perfect fit for votive candles and provide the perfect ambiance

Take it just a step farther and larger pumpkins also work!
Tip: For a beautiful centerpiece, try surrounding the larger pumpkins with smaller ones to create more levels. Finish off with your colorful Fall leaves scattered about!

Here are just a few more ideas of what you can do with Fall:

So we hope you'll enjoy your last day of Summer, and that you'll be ready with open arms to welcome Fall.

Make it an Eventful Day!

What You Need to Know for a F.R.E.S.H. Balanced Life

Mikki Wade

Do you believe a person set up for failure can be successful? Mikki Wade does...

Born in Central Africa, Mikki's childhood was not an easy one. Like many, his family was a dysfunctional one and as a result he didn't have a good relationship with his father. His mother's love, however, meant the world to him. When Mikki was 12, his father moved him and his siblings back to America where he was originally from. Mikki's mother, however, stayed behind. She died the following year and, living miles away, Mikki never got to say goodbye.

With his mother gone, Mikki became involved in street gangs. But at the age of 18 he decided this was not the life for him. A few years later Mikki accepted an invitation to Kevin Holland's church. God spoke to his heart and Mikki listened. It's no mistake the church's name is "Turning Point."

God became the Father figure Mikki needed, and Mikki said "Goodbye" to his destructive habits. Over the next five years, Mikki became more involved in church where he met his wife. They dated for one year before marrying and remained celibate until their wedding day.

Mikki loved his wife but still had deep issues from his past that put a strain on their relationship. He enrolled in Russell Friedman's "Grief Recovery" class which helped him release his anger and forgive the past while dealing with and taking responsibility for his emotions. Mikki continues to learn how to foster his relationships with the help of people like Dr. Jack O. Balswick, Director of Marriage and Family Research at the Fuller Theological Seminary.

While working on his inner self, Mikki was also determined to improve his health. After reading Sanctification of Blood by Dr. Tim O'Shea, and researching his website (thedoctorwithin.com), Mikki lost over forty pounds and rarely gets ill anymore.

Also ambitious, Mikki fostered his entrepreneurial spirit starting a business at 27. By the time Mikki was 34, he was making an impressive sum of money in real estate. At one point, he made $110,000 in 45 days. Mikki finally felt successful but after attending one of Dani Johnson's seminars he changed his mind. He realized that working hard and spending harder wasn't the way to live. He was defining success by someone else's standard.

Today, Mikki measures his success by balance; balanced Finances, Relationships, Emotions, Spirituality and Health (F.R.E.S.H.). Mikki desires to share how others can be balanced too. His dream is to start a school called the F.R.E.S.H. Hope Academy that teaches young children about these five key areas. After a recent seminar featuring Brian Klemmer, however, Mikki realized he lacked trust in one person--himself. His inability to trust himself was keeping him from his dreams.

Taking a step of faith, Mikki decided to host a Seminar (F.R.E.S.H. Balance 4 Life). The Seminar will be held on August 22, 2009 at the Pasadena Convention Center. While most seminars focus on one area, F.R.E.S.H. Balance 4 Life covers five different areas that are all intertwined. The Seminar will create a paradigm shift, and people will learn why they're having problems in these areas and how they too can change. Mikki's goal is that the Seminar will raise the funds needed to make his dream, the F.R.E.S.H. Hope Academy, a reality.

To achieve his dream, Mikki contacted the key people mentioned above who've helped him in these areas, all complete strangers except for Kevin Holland, his Pastor. Each person agreed to participate through "a phone call and a prayer." Mikki's 5 year old son also prayed which he believes made a world of difference.

As a child, Mikki Wade lost his hope. Now he wants to help children just like him get it back.

Roll Out the Red Carpet...and Stanchions

If you just read that title and thought to yourself, "What the heck is a stanchion?" then we're happy to introduce something new to you! (If you already know what a stanchion is, read on anyway, you could use the 2 minute brain break) **smile**

We recently held an event at the Beverly Hills Hotel, one of our favorite venues where you always feel like a star. From the moment you leave your car with the Valet Attendant, you receive the red carpet treatment...

This inspired us to blog about another element in the Event Planning industry: The Red Carpet. At PSP we've done many red carpet events and industry jargon like "stanchions" and "step & repeat" are thrown around around all the time. If you don't already know what these things are, by the time you're done reading this post, you can impress all of your friends the next time you're at a cocktail party or some hoity-toity event.

Let's get down to it.

What is a "stanchion"? According to the wonderful Wikipedia, A stanchion is an upright bar or post, often providing support for some other object. (ex: Portable posts used to manage lines and queues, Fixed posts with decorative ropes or Retractable belt stanchions)

We've seen 'em all before... They're used to keep large crowds at bay, make certain lines look more exclusive, and sometimes to just control the masses in general.

OK. So one down, one more to go...

What's a "Step & Repeat"?

A Step & Repeat is a banner that's used as a photographic backdrop. A Company or Organization's logo is repeated in a step pattern all over the banner. So, no matter who's photographed, the company name or logo can always be seen. The banner is generally large enough that the edges of it not be seen (at least 8" x 8'). Banner material is usually matte so as to ensure that there's no glare in your photographs.

Step and Repeats also get their name from the types of poses done by those being photographed in front of them. They are often seen behind celebrities at red carpet events and high profile parties. As the paparazzi clicks away, celebs step in front of the banner, pose, and repeat until they are ready to leave the red carpet. All in all, these banners can be a very effective marketing tool to promote a service, event or any other public relations.

So we hope you learned something...and we want you all to know...

Similar to the Beverly Hills Hotel, at PSP we believe in giving each and every one of our clients the "red carpet treatment." That is, we want each encounter to feel special and unique -- Everyone is a star.

My Country 'Tis of Thee

All of of us at PSP want to wish all of you a Happy and Safe Fourth of July Weekend! Whether you'll be at the beach or at a backyard BBQ, we wish you good company, good food, and good fireworks! We hope you'll take the time to enjoy friends and family...and reflect on what this country means to you...

What does your America look like?

My country,' tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing;
land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrims' pride,
from every mountainside let freedom ring!

God Bless!

The Art of the "Thank You"

Wow! It's certainly been a long time since our last blog post... We've been busy bees this month of May, working on several clients simultaneously. But no complaints here! We're thankful for the work!

This week we want to bring to you something we consider to be somewhat of a lost art form... That is, the "art of the thank you." When was the last time you sent a note of warm thanks or heartfelt appreciation? Or even yet, when was the last time you received one?

Now... some of you out there may be thinking, "I send 'thank you's' all the time!" To you we say, "Kudos!" You're in the (smaller) population of folks who understand the importance of this gesture; that it's not just friendly, it's a vital part of building relationships!

For those of you who are reading this and pondering to yourself: when was the last time you received a hand-written note -- whether it said "thanks" or just "hello." This post is for you!

This post is not for the faint of heart... After all, we did say "hand-written." That's right! In today's technological world, it's so easy to get lost in cyberspace. With sites like Twitter, MySpace, FaceBook and every "Instant Messenger" you can think of, people are a lot less likely to pick up the phone to find out "What's New" much less write a note and send (dare I say it?) SNAIL MAIL!

Don't get us wrong, these "Social Networking" sites do have their place -- and we even encourage their use. But that's a different subject for another day. :)

That said, an email, tweet, or facebook message with the subject line: "Thanks!" will not suffice this time around. Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time to dust off your fountain pens and stationary and get back to the basics.

There are many ways to say "Thank You!" But none are quite so nice as a hand written note from a friend.

Give it a try! You'll be glad you did... and so will the person you're thanking!

Make it an Eventful Day!
